Aboriginal Engineering Ltd. (AEL) has grass roots in Aboriginal communities. The company has witnessed the development of minerals in the Tlicho Region including massive diamond mine development and the implementation of multi-million dollar remediation projects. AEL has successfully maintained over 85% Aboriginal employment since the commencement of the corporation.
AEL has trained over 300 northern Aboriginal residents as Heavy Equipment Operators, Surveyors, Quality Control Technicians, Environmental Technicians, Hazardous Material Specialists and Supervisors.
AEL was founded in 1995 as a private engineering company based in Behchoko, Northwest Territories. The company was established to capitalize on resource development that was expected with the discovery of diamond deposits in the Tlicho Region. The company mandate was developed to provide technical training to local Aboriginal people on all projects undertaken.
The company operated and serviced large mine development projects, government projects and private sector clientele. In 2006 the Tlicho Investment Corporation purchased AEL with the existing management team.
